Pregnancy, Toddlers, and Barbells: My Real-Life Olympic Sport
In my first pregnancy, I was lucky enough to keep up my resistance training pretty much as usual. I was crushing Jolt group sessions like Lift, barely needing to dial anything back. But with these back-to-back pregnancies, it's been a whole different ballgame. I've had to get creative, adapting my training to manage the physical demands of my job (both at Jolt and work at home with a toddler).
As a pre/post natal certified fitness coach, there’s no textbook that can expand your growth and versatility as a trainer quite like the experience itself. Here’s what I have learned this pregnancy:
Jolt Fitness Training Methods: Lift Sessions
A common training mistake is going to the gym and doing different movements every time. Although people love the entertainment of variety, it does not lead to effective or efficient results. Instead, we want to maximize your time in the gym to produce the best results - therefore you’ll see consistent exercises in each Mesocycle (3 month periods).
Specifically our Lift and Cross Train sessions are progressive programs designed by Coach Siggy (that’s me!), a trainer with over a decade of experience in all modalities and environments of training. Our Lift sessions are the closest experience you can get to personal training while maintaining the group energy and vibe that we all love! We believe in building a solid foundation of strength using consistent compound movements, and we’re going to help you understand why.
WOMEN OF JOLT - INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 2025
In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we reached out to the inspiring women of the Jolt Fitness community and invited them to express their dedication to fitness and well-being in hopes to inspire others. If you have tried a gym in the past and quickly decided it wasn’t for you, then I hope these women will help empower you to try again, to never give up and keep pushing for integrity in women’s health.
Unlock Your Fitness Potential: The Power of Magnesium
Not all magnesium supplements are created equal. It can be overwhelming walking into a supplement store (or even swimming through online social network marketing) influenced by all the brands and their bold marketing claims. Often supplement companies can make over-assuming calls to action, without the appropriate dosage or quality for effective response. The supplement industry lacks regulation, therefore it’s important to choose high quality, transparent brands with third party testing. This will ensure you get the best bang for your buck. Learn more about how to choose a supplement brand here. Different forms have varying bioavailability, meaning how well your body absorbs them. Here's a breakdown:
IMPROVING VO2 MAX WITH KICKBOXING & SWEAT SESSIONS
When it comes to enhancing health status, disease resiliency, and functional performance, improving VO2 max is a key for those looking to improve their quality of life. VO2 max, or maximal oxygen uptake, is a measure of the body’s ability to take in and utilize oxygen during exercise. Increasing your VO2 max not only enhances your endurance but also boosts your overall fitness level. The best ways to improve your VO2 max at Jolt Fitness is joining in on our Kickboxing and Sweat sessions. Both of which improve the VO2 max using different methods of cardiovascular output.

FAMILY DAY: EVERYDAY FOR THE FINLAYSONs
We felt truly inspired to share the story of the Finlayson family this Family Day. It was amazing to see Brooke spotting her mom as she tackled a heavy, loaded barbell bench press. Moreover, the sight of Kelly and Scott lifting side by side in our classes is testament to the strength of this family - physically and emotionally. When we established Jolt Fitness, our primary aim was to inspire and welcome the entire community. Witnessing families like the Finlaysons become part of the Jolt Fam reaffirms that we are progressing toward achieving our mission of building resilient bodies and creating high-quality lives in Huron County. To the Finlaysons and all the families who have made Jolt Fitness their second home, you inspire us and the entire Jolt Fam!
The Number One Supplement For Muscle Building: Creatine
Creatine is well known for its ability to enhance strength and help build muscle mass. It rapidly replenishes ATP in muscle cells, allowing for continued high-effort performance and strength gains. Creatine is becoming more recognized for a broad spectrum of health benefits, including its support for cognitive function, heart health, and potentially even aiding in preventing age-related declines in mitochondrial function.
JOLT PERFORMANCE TESTING DAY
Join us for Jolt Testing Day where the Jolt Fam will be challenged to an express version of the Jolt Fitness Test. This annual testing day allows members to track their yearly progress and receive semi-customized training suggestions on areas of improvement. Use this data to help you progress and make the right fitness choices for your resilient body and high quality life.
HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED: 15 YEARS OF TRAINING
The hardest part about quitting is re-starting. And re-starting is not optional. Whether we like it or not, fitness is a daily health practice like brushing our teeth and taking a shower. We don’t think “hmmm, I am not motivated to brush my teeth lately and throw the tooth brush away”…
WEIGHTLIFTING DURING PREGNANCY: IS IT SAFE?
With the shocked looks I get as I finish up my Air Bike sprints, also come a lot of questions from other women.
Is that safe? Wow, should all women train like that? Did your doctor approve that? How should I train during my pregnancy? What should I change in my current workout routine now that I am pregnant?
